| EUSOBI 2010 - HANDS-ON BREAST BIOPSY WORKSHOPS Thursday, March 4, 2010 This workshop is organised to provide participants with an introduction to the most important issues in percutaneous imaging-guided biopsy of breast lesions under ultrasound and MRI guidance. Percutaneous imaging-guided needle biopsy has increasingly become an alternative to surgical biopsy for the histologic assessment of breast lesions. Percutaneous biopsy is faster, less invasive and less expensive than surgical biopsy. Tissue acquisition is performed with automated large core needles or directional vacuum-assisted biopsy probes. Guidance for percutaneous biopsy is usually provided by stereotaxis and ultrasound. In the near future, MRI may play a significant role, especially in high risk patients. Imaging guidance depends on lesion type and the results of diagnostic imaging studies. This workshop deals with indications, advantages, limitations and controversial issues in percutaneous imaging-guided biopsy of breast lesions under ultrasound and MRI guidance. Participants will work on phantoms to learn how to hit a lesion or, for the more experienced, how to improve their personal 'hit rate'. During practical sessions, participants will be instructed how to perform breast biopsy on phantoms under ultrasound and MRI guidance. State-of-the-art equipment will be available, including different automated large core needles and/or directional vacuum-assisted biopsy probes, and sessions will be arranged to allow time for each participant to perform examinations under supervision. Participants will learn how to hit a lesion or, for the more experienced, how to improve their personal 'hit rate'. Learning Objectives: 1.To learn how to perform breast biopsy under US guidance. 2.To learn how to perform breast biopsy under MRI guidance. 3.To learn the potential advantages and limits of MRI-guided biopsy. 4.To learn which technique should be preferably used (automated large core needles or directional vacuum-assisted biopsy probes). MR/US Workshop Details and Overview --------------------------------------------------
Please note all workshops of MR (WS MR-A.1 > WS MR-B.3) and US (WS US-C.1 > WS US-E.3) will teach the same content. How to register for your preferred workshops?
